clothes with a conscience: 3 apparel brands that combine fashion and ethics
every purchase we make affects other people. the shirt you’re wearing, for example, was sold to you by a retailer, who had it delivered by a supplier, who brought it from the manufacturer, who employed several people in each stage of its creation, who worked off of a pattern drawn by a designer, who selected fabrics from textile manufacturers, who bought raw materials from farmers . . . and so on.

2016 simple long black tailor made evening prom dresses (lfndb0015)

so when you bought your shirt, you were doing much more than a simple transfer of money. rather, you were casting a small yet meaningful vote towards how the world works.

this is because companies don’t exist in a vacuum: when you give money to a company, you’re implicitly supporting the values that company stands for. if you buy clothing for a company that takes a strong stance on workers’ rights, you’re voting that companies should uphold high ethical standards. conversely, if you buy from a company with a bad track record on workers’ rights, you’re voting that other factors, like aesthetics or cost, are more important than ethical responsibility.

now, there’s a pervasive misconception around shopping ethically. many people seem to be under the impression that “ethical shopping” means hand-spun wool ponchos that itch and cost hundreds of dollars.

however, this isn’t the case: shopping ethically doesn’t have to come at the expense of style, nor is it a pastime only for those with large disposable incomes. these four brands show that it’s possible to run a profitable apparel business while keeping fashion and ethics high on your priority list.1. studio 15studio 15 is a women’s vintage prom dresses uk boutique that has earned loyal customers by putting ethics at the forefront of their business model. to that end, studio 15 not only keeps their supply chain ethical and clean, but also contributes 5% of all proceeds to small or solo manufacturers and designers via microfinance loans through the nonprofit organization kleos.

specifically, studio 15 funds small loans to burgeoning businesswomen. “we focus on funding women because over two thirds of global citizens who live in poverty are female,” ceo jia wertz explains. “we love the concept of funding small loans to burgeoning businesswomen around the globe. and the repayment rate of microfinance loans is typically around 99%, so we’re confident that our investments are making a difference.”

though helping finance loans to budding designers costs studio 15 money, wertz has found that the loyal customer base that the company has engendered more than makes up for the expense ociated with the loans. “people feel good shopping with us because they know that in doing so, they’re uplifting and empowering other women,” wertz says.2. sword & plough

sword & plough is one of the pioneers of upcycling, which refers to the practice of re-purposing discarded materials into high-quality products. unlike recycling, a process that requires energy and resources, upcycling doesn’t involve any machinery or consumption of extra resources.

the name sword & plough originates from the ancient saying “to turn swords into plough shares” — in other words, taking military materials and applying them for civilian use.sword & plough embodies upcycling by taking old, unused military fabrics and transforming them into fashion-forward purses. in doing so, they’re not only conserving resources and doing their part to reduce waste, but they also directly employ veterans, a group that historically suffers from high unemployment rates.

3. sseko designs

shark tank fans might recognize sseko designs from a 2015 episode in which the founder, liz bohannon, failed to impress the sharks and left the show without funding.

the idea behind sseko is to use fashion as a method for providing employment and, eventually, education to impoverished women in uganda. to do so, sseko provides dignified employment creating high-quality footwear and accessories to ugandan women during the gap year between high school and university. fifty percent of their salary goes into an account that goes towards education when the gap year is over, at which point the women have saved enough money to attend college.

clearly, her lack of success on shark tank didn’t stop bohannon: over a year and a half later, sseko continues going strong, and has enabled over 70 women to pursue higher education.

these fashion-forward apparel brands are part of cohort of companies — small and large — that have built loyalty by upholding ethics and social responsibility as core tenets (ben & jerry’s and patagonia are other notable examples). and the moment couldn’t be better: a recent survey conducted by nielsen found that over half of consumers of all demog hics were willing to pay more for profits that upheld their ethics.

financial profit is the core of any business model, and there’s nothing wrong with that. but financial gain should never come at the expense of others — and as businesses like the ones on this list show, it doesn’t have to.

so, the next time you go out for some retail-the y, make sure to cast your vote to make brands measure success not just in dollars, but in the growth of those who they’ve helped.

dress drive fairy giving away gowns urday
mary-francis bennett has a dream basement - if you're 15 years old and getting ready for the fall dance.

she's the "dress drive fairy," and she has collected around 400 donated gowns to be given away for free to local high schoolers.

"people ask, is this good enough? yes, it is. because you never know what a is looking for," mary said.

she started the event about four years ago, and got about 100 best prom dresses that year. she originally held the drive at denfeld high school, but wanted to change it up so that all high school students who needed a dress could come. so this year, it will be at the valley youth center.

"the best part is seeing that come out of the dressing room, and she's got that dress on, and the smile is just from ear to ear," mary said. "and you know that she has found the dress that makes her feel like a princess."

because the dresses are donated, they often need cleaning or fixing.

"i call it my labor of love because it's a lot of work. to dry clean a dress, it's about $25 a dress. so that's not happening because they're all donated," mary said. "sunday, my clotheslines were so full, it looked like the rainbow out there."

she also has a few seamstresses that donate their time to fix up some of the dresses that need help.

mary said all are welcome, and s are encouraged to try on more than one dress.

"i always hope there's more," she said. "and the way the dresses keep growing, i just keep hoping those s will keep coming."

she said to wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of and to bring a current student id if you have one. she just asks that you are a high school student in order to get a prom dresses in uk.

the drive runs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on urday, sept. 24 at the valley youth center in duluth.

diane pernet brings cutting-edge fashion films to mfa
fashion icon diane pernet loves being provocative.

take her personal style. the paris-based critic and video journalist, who was formerly a p og her and fashion designer and has worked at french vogue and elle, calls to mind a combination of anna wintour mixed with a bit of lady gaga and topped with a vaguely amy winehouse coif.

diane pernet will hit town oct. 6.

p os:mermaid prom dresses

pernet will push the envelope further when she comes to boston on oct. 6 for a film screening and discussion at the museum of fine arts. the works in the 60-minute program are from “a shaded view on fashion film,’’ a juried global contest founded by pernet for cutting-edge fashion films by emerging and established artists.

pernet’s is a familiar name for fashion followers: her blog, a shaded view on fashion(www.ashadedviewonfashion.com), launched in 2005 and idly lured creative types. in 2008, she founded her film competition, which over the years has debuted in paris during fashion week and appeared at events like the cannes film festival.

so what’s she doing here? scoring pernet was a coup, says michelle finamore, the museum’s penny vinik curator of fashion arts. finamore says that, with its mushrooming fashion community, boston is a perfect setting for an event like this.

“younger designers are beginning to settle here, and i feel that it’s becoming a much more welcoming climate for designers. boston is a livable city with more supporters who are consumers, and we distinguish ourselves as a fashion incubator through innovation and tech.”

the mfa event will feature shorts that made a splash at last year’s festival, such as “the independents,” featuring yohji yamamoto designs, “peep shoe,” featuring phillip lim, and “a nced style: men” by ari seth cohen. some films have a narrative, and others are purely visual.

“she does such an amazing job at crystallizing what’s current in the fashion world and teasing out upcoming talent, and she helps me to stay in tune. she has this amazing eye and this finger on the pulse of what’s avant-garde in fashion,” finamore says.

stranded brides uplifted by donated wedding dresses
it might be a bride's second-worst fear: left at the mermaid prom dresses shop.

some women discovered this month that they wouldn't be united with their wedding dresses when linda lee bridal in metairie suddenly closed.

marieprom evening dresses

in response, wedding planners with the local business three little words organized a wedding dress swap, giving locals a chance to donate their used dresses for the stranded customers of the veterans memorial boulevard store.

on urday, about 200 wedding dresses were brought to feet first shoes on magazine street for donation. "i guess i shouldn't be surprised because in new orleans, people show up for each other," said elizabeth nicholson, one of three wedding planners with three little words. "it was really beautiful to see the way women were showing up for each other."

on sunday, customers of linda lee bridal had the opportunity to browse the racks in search of a replacement for their beloved gowns.

dianca thompson, engaged to be married in february, said she showed up for an appointment at linda lee last week, only to find the store had closed. thompson said she picked out her intricately beaded, $2,000 dress back in april 2015, giving her enough time to pay for the gown while keeping up with life's expenses.

"that's how long i've been paying on this dress -- and this happens," thompson said. "i couldn't do anything but cry because my wedding is four months away and i don't have money i can just throw away."

according to wdsu, some customers were allowed to come by linda lee and pick up their dresses on urday, but it wasn't clear whether others would be able to retrieve their orders.

on sunday, thompson showed a volunteer at feet first a p o of her original dress and immediately found the perfect one, she said. "i don't think i can do any more crying," she said. "i have a dress that i really, really like, and i'm just ready to get married now."

thompson said she's grateful that other women would donate something so special to others.

about 150 people are expected to attend her wedding celebration at royal palm in harvey. it will be seven years to the day that she met her husband-to-be ernest francois.

in the meantime, she said, she's figuring out how to help the 12 women in her bridal party find new backless evening dresses.

nicholson said women donating their gowns said their emotional last goodbyes. some attached notes for their future owners to find. "the women who were dropping off these gowns, you could tell they were so happy to be offering it up to someone who needed it," she said.

dolce & gabbana s/s 2017
scene setting: guests at the dolce & gabbana show were treated to a giant coconut stand selling raw slices of crispy fruit and giant bowls of coconut juice before walking in the show space which was formal dresses online this season with bananas hanging from palm trees and a giant neon sign shouting ‘tropicana italiana’. this, however, was just the start of the happy chaos, as a gang of street dancers raided the runway stomping the floor and doing back flips to typical sicilian before the models hit the runway.

mood board: the clothes at dolce & gabbana were just as full-on this season as the set, as the designers poured the proverbial kitchen sink onto every bedazzled look. officer style jackets e crusted with crystals, dripping in ornate embroideries and jingling with charms. dresses crafted from pasta prints, fish prints and ice-cream prints were worn with el slippers, fringed back pumps and crowns of flowers, and tiaras tangled with led lighting.

best in show: though at times a tad too much, dolce & gabbana’s infectious exuberance worked beautifully on many pieces including the sen ional sparkling outfits crafted from multi-colored coin-sized sequins that hugged the body in flounced 1940s style dresses, body skimming fishtail skirts and playful short dresses.

burberry's seasonless clothes usher in fashion's stream-of-consciousness era
when virginia woolf wrote the fantastical biog hical novel orlando, she broke all the rules of time and gender. the protagonist lives for four centuries but ages just 36 years; halfway through, with no explanation, he switches from being a man to a woman.

orlando was christopher bailey’s starting point for burberry’s show, a link more fundamental than the way in which this season’s cavalry women’s jacket recalls the handsome boy-prince costumes worn by tilda swinton in the 1992 film.

marieprom evening dresses

the show was staged in the husk of foyles bookshop, with a copy of orlando on every seat. at the champagne reception before the show, cara delevingne was being snapchatted metres away from a workbench at which craftswomen demonstrated the traditional p ementerie arts of t el making: the present and past of fashion, cheek by jowl.

“what i love about orlando is that nothing is specific to one time or one gender,” said designer christopher bailey after the show. “it is a book about emotion and beauty, which is what i feel fashion is about.”

the downside of a high-concept fashion week event is that the clothes themselves inevitably feel like walk ons, rather than the main event. there was a fashion message, in the blurring of male and female style: the trenchcoat, after all, is genderless, a point that was underscored by a collection that went big on velvet blazers, wide trousers, piped silk pyjama shirts, and other gender-fluid pieces. long sheer lace skirts were worn over silk, bermuda-length bloomers.

a catwalk show with the purpose of selling trenchcoats can never exist on the same cultural plane as a a masterpiece of experimental fiction. but in the very different world of global luxury retail, burberry is attempting something like a commercial version of woolf’s genteel iconoclasm.

the september show, as this was called, broke with the arcane structures of fashion week. instead of showing clothes six months before they go on sale and segregating womenswear from menswear in different fashion weeks, these clothes for both men and women were on sale immediately. jettisoning the pedantic labels of aw16 and ss17 – the internal filing system of fashion are no more compelling to the outside world than any other industry’s office admin – these clothes were “seasonless”. a sharply tailored jacket and a silk shirt are covetable at any time of year, after all.

orlando is most closely ociated with gender fluidity, and the new coed concept is the most eye catching element of the changes currently happening at fashion week. but the dissolution of the traditional fashion timetable is just as revolutionary.

according to the encyclopaedia britannica, stream of consciousness is a narrative technique in which “to represent the full richness, speed, and subtlety of the mind at work, the writer incorporates snatches of incoherent thought, ungrammatical constructions, and free ociations of ideas, images and words”. this technique, which woolf used in orlando, also serves as a fair description of the way in which ideas and trends are disseminated from fashion shows in the age of social media.

this collection was on sale online at the same time it was on the catwalk; some key names, including british fashion council chairman natalie m enet and pop star taylor swift, had been p og hed wearing the clothes some days before the show took place. the tight reins of long-lead fashion are on the way out, and a new era of stream-of-consciousness fashion is beginning.

elsewhere, christopher kane’s tenth anniversary show celebrated iconoclasm of a different kind, reminding the audience how he can take the most unpromising looks – here, plastic crocs and pencil skirts in “road kill fur” – and turn them into want-it-now fashion. “for my very first collection, i made pieces out of stockings that i bought on ridley road market”, he said after the show.

“i have always been able to make anything out of nothing. those prom dresses 2016 are like holy relics to us now. we get them out and look at them every season.”

roksanda stands in serene contrast to kane’s gleeful bad taste. her label combines a boldness with colour – elastoplast pink with brick red, in this instance – with a cool eye and an unerring taste level. it is this instinct for the true north of chic which has evolved her label from a niche brand for art collectors and wealthy gallerists into a go-to name for a-list soft-power dressers including samantha eron and michelle obama.

the penultimate day of london fashion week took a darker turn at erdem, and a collection conceived when the designer read about the story of jean kerr, lady-in-waiting to the consort of charles i and sometime spy for the king of spain, whose wardrobe was lost at sea during a daring mission to pawn the crown jewels to raise money for the royalists on the eve of the english civil war.

this elaborate backstory gave erdem a character for the season (a society woman whose elegant dress conceals a daredevil character) and a stage set (a very picturesque, sympathetically lit shipwreck). the resulting 2016 prom dresses had a kind of broken-hearted-romantic-heroine chic.

this is london fashion week, home of original fashion thinking – so why go to the party looking like everyone else?

'i work on a potato farm … so i thought it would just be fitting if tate made an appearance.'

— matthew ramsay, groom"it would take the lull out of the reception when people are trying to eat and there wasn't any speeches going on, she thought it'd be a great idea."

what are the key components of a hindu wedding ceremony?

marieprom evening dresses

p os:2016 prom dresses

weddings are a celebration of love and commitment, and can also be a celebration of the couple's religion and culture. one such ceremony that you might not be so familiar with? a hindu wedding. whether you're invited as a guest, attending as a member of the wedding party, or are simply curious, there are a few key components you'll see time and again. here, our experts break down a hindu wedding ceremony for you.

traditional hindu weddings fall, generally, along two lines: north indian hindu weddings and south indian hindu weddings. while both ceremonies are incredibly colorful — and might require taking a few days off of work to attend the full range of festivities — the rituals themselves vary. here are a few rituals you may see if you're celebrating a hindu union.

the wedding mandap

the wedding mandap is a temporary structure constructed for the purpose of the marriage ceremony. it may appear on an elevated platform, and is decorated with anything from flowers and greenery to fabric and crystals.

mehndi

during the mehndi ceremony, henna is used to apply intricate designs to the bride's hands and feet. the mehndi ceremony usually takes place one day before the marriage will be held, as the application can take hours!

jai mala

this is the part of the ceremony during which the bride and groom exchange floral garlands. the exchange of floral garlands is particularly important in south indian hindu weddings.

kanyadaan

otherwise known as the moment when the bride's father gives her away, the father of the bride symbolically places his daughter's hand into the hand of her fiancé. he may also pour water into the bride's hand, which will flow through her fingers and into the hand of her groom.

saptapadi

an important ritual in north indian hindu weddings, at this point in the ceremony, the bride and groom have their garments tied together, then take seven steps together (or make seven circles around a ceremonial fire) as they make vows to one another regarding the happiness and success of their marriage.

sindoor

this is the red-orange powder applied to the part of a woman's hair, symbolizing that she is married. it is applied to her part for the first time during the marriage ceremony.

peter pilotto wants to take you on a latin american adventure
peter pilotto and christopher de vos have been travelling in central and south america, and it shows in their spring/summer 2017 collection. embroidered patchwork palm trees, rich jewel colours, gilded lace, cold-shoulder gowns, and tie-front tops instantly sent us to warmer shores.

to think that this label was one that began with a muted palette and a heavy reliance on g hic prints, the duo have now moved towards a far more feminine and soft look. elements of this show felt almost bohemian, though a succession of gingham shirt prom dresses 2016 and embellished denim added a more urban edge, and the frills and ruffles were more flamenco than " festival." some looks did throw back to previous collections, reminding us that this is the same label we fell in love with almost decade ago, like a fluted hem of a midcalf dress, complete with cutout at the waist, and the obsession with necklines that sees almost every piece drawing the eye to the clavicle in a series of v cutouts and st s. but these new evening looks, slinky 2016 prom dresses, and pretty co-ords will open up the label to an even wider audience.

si’s altar halter simon cowell sends grovelling apology after x factor wannabe misses mum’s wedding
edinburgh barman jamie lee morley attended the audition on the day of his mum pam’s wedding rehearsal but had not told her he had entered the singing competition – as he expected to make it out on time.

however the 28-year-old, who was walking his mum down the aisle, didn’t get his slot in front of the judges until 7.30 pm and ended up missing the rehearsal which was taking place in manchester.

after hearing about the wedding drama, mogul simon asked to meet jamie and recorded a special message for pam congratulating her on her nuptials, explaining her son’s absence and praising his singing voice.

p os:marieprom prom dresses 2016

while his mum was annoyed that he had missed the rehearsal, he managed to redeem himself by playing the video on her big day.

the 45-year-old was cross with her son when he turned up much later that night. but jamie made her wedding by playing the video on the big day.

jamie, who tried and failed to get on the show last year, said: “i didn’t tell my mum i was auditioning this year.

"my mum was getting married in manchester the day after my audition in june and was having a rehearsal for it the day before.

"i was meant to be walking her down the aisle with my brother. when i found out about the clash, i said to the organisers at the x factor, 'please can i get on as early as possible.'

"still, i wasn't able to get on till 7.30pm, when i was already meant to be in manchester."

jamie added: "simon loved my audition, i sang songs by rihanna and boyz to men, which he said he found 'very interesting' - i was absolutely overwhelmed to hear this.

"after the audition, simon wanted to meet me, and after hearing my story he recorded a message with the judges saying congratulations to my mum on getting married.

"he also said sorry for me being late, and that my audition had gone really well and that i was through.

"i actually told my mum i would be late because i was stuck in traffic. when i was late she originally wanted to kill me, but when i told her the truth on the wedding day and showed her the video of simon. she was so proud."

pamela said: "at first when jamie was late for the rehearsal, yes i was annoyed. but when i saw the video i was just proud to hear the judges confirm what i'd known for years, that i had a very talented son."

jamie said his singing career began in ibiza, aged 13, when he won a karaoke competition but he let the singing slip while in his 20s.

he revealed that the sudden death of his father, darren in 2014, aged just 45, persuaded him to take up singing again.

he said: "it was my dad who first persuaded me to sing in ibiza. i was never scared on stage but i was always a bit embarr ed, he was my encoura ent.

"he was always a driver behind my , he knew i wanted to do it, and kept persuading me to keep going, so his death gave me the push i needed to get back into it.

"my dad would be really proud of me."

jamie’s is expected to make his appearance on the show tomorrow night on which the apology video is due to played in full.

how 4 of fashion’s power players are dressing this fall
instagrammers may be all the rage, but in real life, a different type of individual turns heads on new york streets. and for good reason. the modern, well-prom dresses 2016 new yorker, whether she’s decked out in head-to-toe gucci or a scramble of vintage and contemporary threads, has personal style that can be appreciated but certainly not emulated. the glamour of manhattan is usually present, combined with confidence that comes from operating successfully at what some call the center of the world. here are four such professional women who, each with a trained eye, a wrinkle-free aesthetic and an insider point-of-view, always get it right.

marieprom evening dresses

you seem to have a bit of a uniform. what’s the story behind it? my wardrobe definitely revolves around skirts and dresses nipped at the waist. it was really about finding was the most flattering fit for me. personal style should be about what works for the person, and my uniform makes shopping and getting dressed so much easier. but actually, my new goal is to find a way to work pants into my wardrobe.

how’s that going? i literally have one pair of pants in my closet, a derek lam pair that they sent me. i tried them on, and i really liked them with longer men’s blazers and tunics. i just bought a grey jason wu tunic dress, which is the perfect way to ease into the whole pant thing.

how do you approach shopping for a new season? it starts with having good core of staples. for me, that’s men’s shirts, on-up shirts and knits. all through the fall and winter i pretty much wear a black or navy knit, from miu miu or jason wu, tucked into a skirt, at least three days per week. i’ll also wear on-downs from céline or tome. then i mix in a few special pieces, so that i don’t bore myself.

what are your fall investment pieces? i just got a céline khaki ruffled skirt, which is kind of safari meets tango. i have a navy wool version with a little ruffle down the side that i wear all the time; i tend to buy variations of the same thing when i find something i love. i was also in barney’s the other day and tried on a dries van noten check duster coat that’s belted and has a fur collar that i’m kind of obsessed with. i’ll probably buy it.

who are some new designers you’re most excited about? sies marjan, a new new york-based label, designed by the dries van noten alum, sander lak. his rich mix of colors, textures and jacquards very much draws from the interiors world and is so different than anything else we’re seeing right now.

now that you’re at architectural digest, having just left glamour, do you think interior design will inform your wardrobe more? i’ve always been inspired by art, architecture and interiors. my husband is an architect, and we’re both really inspired by the french and italian modernists, like jean prouvé and le corbusier. i think that filters into the way i dress.

micaela erlanger

celebrity stylist: lupita nyong’o, jennifer hudson, meryl streep and common

how do you approach piecing together a fall wardrobe? i’m often running around for clients, so my personal shopping has to happen at the end of the day. thank god there’s net-a-porter! i have stocked up on a ton of miu miu and prada, a zillion tweed skirts and a saint laurent leather jacket. i also bought these alice + olivia trousers in five colors. my uniform for fall is going to be a mini skirt and a turtleneck, plus an over-the-knee boot or a little slouchy bootie. i’m also obsessed with all of the new gucci. everything, i want it all!

will you be transitioning anything from summer into fall? i bought a ton of roksanda dresses in these really bold, gorgeous hues that are definitely transitional dresses. all of my jackets and my stella mccartney blazers, too. you can d them over your shoulders.

you’re well known for your love of vintage. where do you find the best pieces? new york vintage is amazing, so is alexandra new york. i just discovered a current affair in l.a., though i think i’m a little late to that party. i bought a fur coat from them, a lurex dress and a cool leather jacket. there’s also malin landaeus in brooklyn, didier ludot in paris and marlene wetherell vintage in the new york showplace. i got an alaïa leather belt and the cutest vintage hermès jacket there. i’m a big ebay shopper, too.

do you have a tailor who tweaks all of your vintage finds? luxtailor. they’re the best and they do everything. they’ve remade my vintage mugler and alaïa skirts.

what do you have planned, in terms of clothing, for fashion week? i make outfits in a nce and p og h them. fashion week is a lot of fun. you get to dress up and bring the glamour, but you’re dressing more for the women and street style p og hers than anything else. it’s going to be insane. not only am i hoping to attend the shows, but i have clients in town attending the shows. we have emmys the following week and it’s the toronto international film festival, so we’re going to be busy.

will you be buying any new handbags this season? i’m looking for a carryall bag, and i might invest in a céline, like the cl ic cabas phantom, the easy office tote. but i really want to invest in luggage this season. louis vuitton just e out with this super new lightweight, really easy to roll luggage, but it’s a small fortune. it would be nice to have something that fits in the overhead bin and looks chic.

how often do you wear your own designs? the only time i ever wear other people’s designs is when i’m on holiday on a beach and i’m wearing a bikini. i’m very loyal. the philosophy of my brand has come out of my own pain points of dressing for this lifestyle. it is super-hectic and goes from 9 a.m., often beyond 9 p.m.

what pieces from your fall collection will you be wearing on repeat? a white shirt takes you so easily from day to night. my favorite in the collection is the avery tunic. i’m wearing a mini skirt over it and letting the little shirttails peek out. we’ve also got this amazing blazer dress called the florence. it’s oversized, but if you do it up, it’s the perfect mini dress and it’s super ver ile.

what bags and shoes will you be wearing with your misha nonoo pieces? i’m pretty loyal to céline for their bags. i love their new mini trotteur in lizard skin, if the budget extends. and i’m really into prada shoes. there are a couple of pairs that i’ve already bought: one has cool little buckles on it and then another pair of platforms that i’ve been layering with cool, large fishnet tights. my go-to tights are wolford, always.

what stores do you frequent? dover street market is my favorite. then, for home stuff, i like wyeth. i get all my lingerie from journelle, because they have great bras. but i only shop on their website, even though they have a store in new york. i pretty much only shop online. i don’t want to spend my free time in a store.

who is your style icon? phoebe philo. she’s so minimal and so understated. i love the way that she has such enormous influence, but when you see her in person, she’s tiny, and she runs around in sneakers and is so un uming. i really admire that.

what’s the next big investment piece you’re saving up for? those are mainly contemporary art and design related! i really want to change up my whole living room and collect some mid-century modern pieces, so it’s going to be an expensive fall if that happens. there are also some mid-century modern chairs and a sofa that i spotted on 1stdibs…

what have you already purchased for the coming cold weather? i recently purchased a pair of velvet gianvito rossi peep toe military-inspired booties. but i’ve been waiting for our new brookfield place store to open at the beginning of september, because i have a huge shopping list from there. i want a few hoodies and a coat fromvetements and a floral print dress and navy blue parka from balenciaga. then there are leopard capes and pearl slip dresses from dries van noten that i have my eye on.

do you use the personal shopping services at the store? yes, of course, it takes a village! i work with eric sorlie from the fifth avenue club. when i first started here, during last fashion week, eric’s team helped outfit me for the whole month, within one day. i remember having a pretty woman moment, where he and his team walked me out with 15 to 20 saks fifth avenue bags and put me in an suv.

how else does your job shape how you shop? i see so much during fashion month that i have an encyclopedic knowledge of what the trends are. there are pieces that i naturally gravitate towards, begin a love affair in the showroom with and i definitely remember those special pieces. today i was asking our buyers when we were receiving the pearl curly slides from miu miu, that erdem prom dresses 2015 and my proenzajacket. i always have a list of items that i have my eye on.

will you be experimenting with any new beauty looks? have you noticed there was a lot of glitter on the eyes that e down the runway? we saw it at burberry and alexander mcqueen. there were different glitter textures, and i want to experiment a bit with that for evening, especially because it adds so much light to the face.

willow smith, 15, and her older brother jaden smith, 18, grace the cover of interviewmagazine’s september 2016 issue, and this marks the siblings’ first cover together. (hard to believe, right?) in the interview, the two talk with singer and producer, pharrell williams, 43, about everything from social media, to their famous parents, to philosophy and tv shows. but, one thing that stood out to was when they got candid about their fashion choices. willow explained that she and jaden’s confidence about their wild fashion finds e from their mother “totally accepting” them and not saying, “oh, you don’t look good in that. you look crazy. people are gonna think this about you.” but, willow admitted that even though her mom didn’t say that, it was “obviously going to be happening regardless.” the brother-sister tag team stuck true to themselves and didn’t let anyone or anything bring them down. willow revealed that “it wasn’t like that ruled what we did or the choices that we made.” you go, guys!

the duo are no strangers to the spotlight and the harsh things that may come with the price of fame. the two siblings may be known for their incredible talents, outspoken opinions and inspirational voice, however what they’re usually critiqued on is their insane sense of fashion. while we think they are super chic, others can be extremely critical, but they don’t care! jaden has been spotted out wearing skirts, while willow has been known to rock mixed prints, oversized pants, facial jewelry and so much more.

aside from any haters, (and we can’t imagine why there would be), the two are doing just fine. since their evident maturity and confidence washes away any self-doubt, they don’t seem to have a care in the world what anyone else thinks. and if that wasn’t enough, willow was named chanel’s latest amb ador in march 2016. her brother is even up there in the fashion rankings too! he sported one of his signature style stapes, a skirt, for louis vuitton’s spring 2016 womenswear paign. in fact, he even launched a gender neutral clothing line msftsrep. “i’ve always been super-duper fly and super-duper different,” he told our sister publication, variety. so, it’s safe to say that we can learn a lot from these icons!

hollywoodlifers, what do you think of willow and jaden’s outspoken fashion choices and their ability to not care what others think? tell us in the comments below!

the all woman project aims to show what real diversity in fashion looks like
diversity in fashion is a slow-moving beast. every year, more and more modelsof color, models who aren't, say, a size 2 and models who aren't cisgender are cast in runway shows and ad paigns. more models who don't fit into the blonde, waif aesthetic are being seen, and to some that's not a coincidence, but a concerted effort.

for example, there have been runways that have actively tried to change these numbers, like kanye west, who cast all people of color of his yeezy season 3presentation, or chromat, a label that regularly casts models of various different sizes and abilities. then there are brands like aerie and lonely lingerie that are going without airbrushing and casting models with various different body times.

marieprom evening dresses

p os:prom dresses manchester

now, two models who don't necessarily fit the model norm, clementine desseaux and charli howard, have come together to make sure that diversity isn't just seen as a p ing fad. their joint project, called the all woman project, aims to illuminate the idea that not all women are the same, and shine a light on a few of the women out there who are expanding the fashion industry's definition of beauty. .

"we just want all s to look at their bodies and realize that there's nothing wrong with them," desseaux said in an interview. "just because you're a model doesn't mean you're exempt from cellulite, and that goes for the other way around too. nothing is impossible because of your body."

to prove that point, desseaux and howard wanted to round up just the right group of women women to star in a paign that aims to show brands and designers alike that this is what it would look like if diversity was taken seriously.

"it's basically an ad paign for no brand but promoting women," desseaux said. "so it's like a paign we'd dream of being featured in, but no brand would ever do. it's just like a big 'hello' to the industry. we exist. we're beautiful."

in order to find the right women for this paign, desseaux and howard started by looking at their circle of model friends who are vocal body positivity advocates, and went from there.

"we thought, 'who are all the women in the main industries right now who are talking about diversity and taking action and talking about it frequently?'" desseaux said. "from there, we kept on brainstorming and researching and we found out that we have so many women around us talking about diversity that were interested in being involved in this project."

the names they e up with were models barbie ferreira, who's worked with aerie, denise bidot, iskra lawrence, shivani persad, elliott sailors, a gender-fluid model, victoria brito, kamie crawford and brooklyn per leaf.

and in a rather stunning new video introducing the project, those women smile and dance about while exclaiming things like, "it's time that women start empowering each other, getting together and celebrating diversity."

in addition to the paign and video, the all woman project also encourages women to tag pictures and videos of themselves on instagram and twitter with the hashtag #iamallwoman to help spread the movement.

the reason why desseaux and howard are so p ionate about diversity in the fashion industry is because both had to move from their home countries in order to find their way into the industry due to their body types. according to desseaux, who lived in france, and howard, who lived in england, america is the place where models and and other women who do break the norm are more celebrated, seen and heard.

according to numbers alone during fashion weeks, that's certainly true. although new york fashion week still casts a majority of white models, 31.9%were models of color last season. compare that to london's 19.9% and milan's19.7%. and as far as plus-size models go, four walked in nyfw, while two walked in paris and zero walked in milan and london.

japan has become a big inspiration for canadian designers
you can’t fully prepare for your first trip to tokyo. yes, you can buy the monocle guide, re-watch jiro dreams of sushi and pack your full suitcase inside a larger, empty suitcase in anticipation of all of the treasures you’re planning to bring home, but none of it can prepare you for the experience of being there. the scale. the tidiness. the bowing. for the sartorially inclined, visiting tokyo for the first time is like spending your life eating orange sherbet only to discover there are actually hundreds of other flavours of ice cream, all of them fascinating, most of them better than orange sherbet.

p os:prom dresses london

i recently spent a week in tokyo, walking the streets, riding the subways, eating copiously and wanting to buy everything in sight. from the vintage denim shops of shimokitazawa to the luxury department stores of ginza to the sci-fi street style of harajuku, i was overwhelmed by not just the vast selection, but how well executed it all was. here, eastern and western influences come together to create something unique. it felt both like visiting another planet and coming home. i’m just one of many recent converts to the japanese way of doing things: chefs flock to the noodle counters and sushi bars in search of transcendent tastes; tech geeks make pilgrimage to tokyo’s electronics district; and, likewise, fashion is increasingly turning its gaze eastward for materials, inspiration and enlightenment.

“if you’re going to do something, you might as well be the best at it,” says brandon svarc, who had an experience similar to mine when he first visited japan a decade ago. in search of fabric for his montreal-based denim brand naked & famous, he was quickly won over. “i didn’t choose japanese denim because japanese fashion is cool,” he says. “i did it because japanese denim is the best in the world.”

not only did the denim become a central element of his brand, the japanese spirit of innovative perfectionism began to imbue his work as well. naked & famous began with the concept of high-quality denim at accessible prices, but has subsequently become known for outlandish creations like glow-in-the-dark jeans, evergreen-scented scratch ‘n’ sniff trousers and, most recently, pants woven with kevlar for extra durability. none of these creations, svarc says, would have been possible without the tenacity and ingenuity of his japanese suppliers. “if i went to italy or turkey or china they’d say, ‘no way, we can’t do this.’ in japan it’s ‘no problem, we’re going to figure it out for you,’” he says.

in vancouver, luxury streetwear brand wings + horns was born after its founder returned from a seven-year stay in japan. since its inception, wings + horns has earned a loyal following for its austere, monochromatic palette and clean lines, as well as its dedication to producing all of its product between b.c. and japan. for designer tung vo, there’s no question about the importance of the japanese influence on the brand’s identity. “it’s a very considered, methodical, almost obsessive approach to details,” he says of the japanese aesthetic. “there’s a lot of subtle nuance.” for fall, vo produced a collection of outerwear inspired by in praise of shadows, a 1933 essay on aesthetics by japanese novelist junichiro tanizaki. the essay discusses at length the beauty found in the delicate play of light and shadow, an observation that faithfully translates to the heavy woollen sweaters and deep black bomber jackets of the collection.

while the term “japanese fashion” encomp es everything from meticulously faithful reproductions of american workwear to the bold patterns and flowing lines of issey miyake’s runway collections, attention to detail and high-quality materials are consistent throughout. there is, however, another, more elusive element. a notoriously conformist society, where wearing anything other than a black suit to work is seen as a statement unto itself, fashion in japan carries an entirely different significance than elsewhere. “when mr. miyake started the brand, the daily workwear of men was nothing but standard suiting,”says yusuke takahashi, designer of issey miyake men. “he wanted to make clothes that set people free.” for his latest collection, takahashi was in part inspired by the hues and textures of traditional mongolian clothing, translating it to the runway in a range of colourful, flowing knits and billowing woollen trench coats stamped with a horse hoof print. it’s at once foreign and familiar, simple and complex, undoubtedly influenced by european standards but still wholly japanese. at first it looks confusing, outlandish, ridiculous even, but the longer you stare at it the more fascinating it becomes.

after a week in tokyo i’d blown my budget, filled my empty suitcase to bursting, and uttered the phrase, “why did no one think of this at home?” more times than i could count. i was exhausted, overstimulated, hungover, exhilarated. it felt like no bowl of noodles or department store could ever isfy me again. this, i now understand, is how it happens.

in-flight fashion show celebrates southwest’s new uniforms
one day next june — the exact date is not yet set — all southwest employees will show up for work wearing the new uniforms that a specially selected group of their colleagues designed.

while not yet officially in the sky, the uniform collection was shown off in a recent in-flight fashion show during a delivery flight from everett, wash., to dallas.

p os:celebrity dresses uk

during the flight, employee-models walked down the aircraft “runway” to dj-spun onboard a boeing 737-800 aircraft sporting the carrier’s new “heart” interior and the new employee-designed galley.

that aircraft was the seventh aircraft delivered from boeing in this configuration, but the first on which the complete collection of new uniforms was on display.

the new uniforms incorporate southwest’s bold blue and signature red brand colors and were designed by a committee of 43 employees from across the company, including ground ops, inflight, provisioning, technical operations and cargo. southwest said 120 employees across 37 cities then tested the pieces for fit and comfort, performance and functionality, durability, aesthetics, style and ease of care.

"our energetic employees are the heart of our airline, and they were the perfect choice to design and develop our new look," said sonya lacore, vice president cabin services and executive sponsor of the uniform redesign project, in a statement. "our brand, our planes, and our people are bold and modern, and the new uniform represents who our employees are — spirited, professional, unique, and approachable."

these p os released by southwest show off its new “heart” aircraft livery as well as its new logo and branding for its airport locations. southwest airlines

6 unexpected designers from stockholm fashion week
stockholm fashion week, the biannual showcase held in the center of the swedish capital, shines a light on both local giants and fresh emerging talents. the spring 2017 season brought plenty of expected sleek minimalism—just look to house of dagmar and greta gram’s characteristically quiet collections—but perhaps more intriguingly, it wasn’t hard to find the outsized or the avant-garde among the week’s offerings. thanks to this batch of designers, stockholm may be home to the next great absurdist designs. here, the standout collections to note.

marieprom evening dresses

the opening show of the week was the graduation show for the swedish school of textiles. think young swedish design means discreet and simple in tone? think again. there were hints of jacquemus-style surrealism—see: ella josefin larsson’s cut-out heavy exquisite corpse collection, color-crazed, evelin kago’s stephen sprouse-inspired multi-layered concoctions, and, in a move that made the whole room grin, julia ragnarsson’s cheeky offering, who are u wearing?, which featured prints of angelina jolie’s slit-to-here 2012 oscar gown and jennifer lopez’s iconic versace frock printed on minimal silk prom dresses.

launched in 2010 by four friends based in gothenburg, l’homme rouge showed for the first time this season. of their stripped-down, earthily cool aesthetic, brand ceo john-ruben holtback said, “we really try to go deep into the concept of each collection. for fall 2016, the subject was blindness so we did interviews with blind people, it was really interesting to visualize and discuss the abstract perception of the blind. for spring/summer (the garden group), we went back to look at the green wave and gardening in sweden in the '70s.” he described the mentality as raw, poetic and playful.

the recipient of this year’s guldknappen prize (sweden’s version of a cfda award), nellie kamras’ stand is a hyper-minimal, two year-old, all leather line. it has a calmly cool vibe, and the designer says this season is grounded in a strong feminine energy. “romantic details such as frills, long skirts and asymmetric cuts are contrasted with sporty injections visible in garments such as bomber jackets and parkas,” explained kamras. “together these two contrasting elements create the contemporary and edgy look and attitude that is the very fundament of stand.”

young swedish designer ida klamborn’s spring/summer collection was inspired by —or rather, the ways in which women are made subjects in the genre and the methods by which we can reclaim power and perspective. “the collection is quite soft, raw and subtle with terry cloth fabric, pink, red and blue colors, a print of a masturbating woman on a t-shirt and interesting pattern constructions, such as a large star placed right on the crotch/ /punani on a pair of jeans,” said klamborn. “the striking women walking the show have blue glitter around their eyes, smudged out like they slept with make-up on, the hair is wet and almost looks sweaty.” the models in the show were street cast, and the soundtrack's opening lyrics were, "i was good on my own, that’s the way it was.”

twenty-something designers mathilda nilsson and hanna rudebeck looked to '90s hip-hop and r&b for inspiration for their first runway show. with mood boards highlighting images of aaliyah, the collection included loose slung houndstooth-printed skirts and pajama pants, double breasted suit jackets worn sans pants, and outsized shoulders of this past season’s vetements. the core of nhorm’s design identity? “effortlessness,” say nilsson and rudebeck.

at whyred man, one of the more well-known stockholm labels, attendants handed out earplugs and tails as guests walked in the door. the show was held at a club in storehof, a complex in the center of the city, and the local all- s indie band moon city boys performed as the models walked. the clothes contained elements of mod style, rock chic, and punk irreverence. “in the end, my inspiration for this season is much like a savage journey to the heart of the american dream in the 1960’s from different artistic points of view,” explained designer jonas bladmo.

there’s rouge dior’s new couture colour, which renders the lip a plush matte for 16 hours in one of the house’s iconic reds, or a rather unorthodox navy. tom ford’s metallic cream shadows provide an equally pretty pop of petal pink or burnished copper on the lid, perhaps best painted on with one of sonia kashuk’s ivory-bristled brushes. for a pitch-perfect canvas, lancôme’s spin on the cushion compact is a long-wearing, high-coverage foundation option. givenchy, too, has put an innovative twist on a cosmetic cl ic with a three-sphere mascara brush that hugs each lash, while cult natural skin-care brand context has expanded its range to include eight glossy nail lacquers that are, of course, 5-free.

on the skin-care scene, la prairie’s latest essence-in-lotion comes infused with caviar water that, when swept across the face just after cleansing, conditions and refines pores on contact. then there’s the magnetight age-defier, a next-level mask courtesy of dr. brandt, whose iron-based formula comes with an actual magnet that is w ped in cloth and run over the skin to remove the muddy particles. for something a bit more down to earth, shiseido’s lifting eye cream and kiehl’s targeted acne spot pen are two utterly foolproof treatments that fit in your pocket.

and since little things make a big difference, what better way to revamp your regimen than with a dropper of diptyque’s radiance-boosting infused face oil, with shredded rose petals floating within? kenzo’s new floral fragrance is another objet for your vanity, thanks to its pale blue evil-eye bottle with gold logo-charm pupil. others may prefer the results-driven magic of living proof’s dry texturizing spray, or the practical appeal of shu uemura’s new urban moisture line, which includes a vitamin e and uv-protectant serum that shields hair from pollutants and happens to be the prettiest tangerine hue. this fall, you can have it all.

editor at large: till fence do us part
my dad can get dramatic over the phone. i usually don’t worry about it too much when he gets like this, but it’s about 9 p.m. on a monday night — which is definitely not the time he would usually call me.

“okay, i won’t,” i replied.

my dad then told me about construction fencing that had been installed all the way around my wedding venue. my stepmom saw it as she was driving serendipitously, just because she was excited about the weekend’s events. it’s monday, and my wedding is on urday.

once you got inside the main area of the venue, it was fine, he said. but walking in, you were surrounded by fences, and the fences would make it into the backgrounds of most of my wedding p os. the gardens where we planned to take most of our bridal portraits were also totally off-limits.

ok. we had five days to sort this out. we had lots of other things we needed to get done that week, but we thought maybe those fences would be gone by urday. why else would no one have informed us that the area was under construction?

the next morning, i called the venue and asked if the fences would be gone.

“oh, no, they’ll be there urday,” the voice on the other end of the phone said. “but once you’re inside you barely notice them.”

the conver ion continued with phrases like “it’s not that bad” and “soften the blow” and “oh, you’ll be fine.” not exactly the kinds of things someone who spent thousands of dollars to host a party wants to hear. no, not a party. a wedding. our ceremony was also scheduled to be there.

we had to figure this out. i wanted pictures without a construction fence in the background. i called my p og her.

“i just wanted to let you know that there is now a giant construction fence around my venue,” i told her. she said she wasn’t too worried about it and to send her pictures.

i texted her the pictures.

“oh. oh wow,” e her response. “we need to have a first look,” she said, referring to the moment the p og her captures the bride and groom seeing each other for the first time before the ceremony.

it was a rush to find a good place for the “first look.” then we had to rearrange some of our vendors to come earlier. all while doing extra work and preparing for a long drive out of state to where we would get married.

but chris and i try very hard to roll with the punches. it was five days before the wedding we began planning 10 months ago, and it was not going to be the way we had been dreaming it would be. but we were determined to make it great.

it didn’t take long to decide to have our first look at the nearby college we were attending when we first started dating. our vendors were very understanding that they needed to come earlier. my p og her scoped out the venue and the college for good p o locations. several phone calls later, we even got the venue to push the fence back away from the pathway, so guests would see parts of the garden instead o iant fence as they entered.

it took a lot of time that we, frankly, did not have. but the situation had been dramatically improved from what it would have been if my stepmom never saw the fence and we had seen it for the first time when we arrived at the venue friday morning for our rehearsal.

it was also sweet seeing chris for the first time at our college pus. we got some excellent p os there that we never would have gotten otherwise.

and my mom surprised me friday night with a hard hat decorated with a veil. we took some p os wearing it in front of the (stupid) fence.

in our travels and time together, chris and i have learned that the best thing to do when something doesn’t go as planned is to laugh at it.

plus, as a very good friend of mine told me when i told her about the fence, if you end the day married, it was a successful day. i would say it was successful indeed! it was a night full of laughter and love, surrounded by some of the most important people in our lives. there were tears, cheers and beers, and we have already spent the last couple of days looking at p os and reminiscing. it’s not easy to plan a wedding, and it’s not easy to change things at the last second, but if nothing else, it strengthened our relationship as we learned to work as a team and compromise together during this week.

i am writing this column from our 13.5-hour plane heading into auckland, new zealand to begin our honeymoon — a tour through new zealand, australia and fiji. while something is sure to go wrong during these three weeks abroad, i am confident that chris and i have what it takes to laugh together and roll with it.

*the venue has not been named because they made a tremendous effort to make it right after lots of loud complaining from my whole family. it is a recognizable place if you know where to look, so the city, state and name of the nearby college have also been omitted.

cranberry gowns through the ages
ribbons, flounces and lace! the annual cranberry festival exhibit by the bandon historical society museum features past festival p os, event memorabilia and cranberry court gowns.

court member gowns are the heart of the festival history exhibit, according to society president jim proehl. through the years, court members and queens have donned formal regalia for appearances at community events and the annual festival coronation ceremony. the museum collection of 33 formal prom dresses uk, and a few accessories, is a seasonal treat for fashion enthusiasts.

the color of choice for recent court members has been red, in hues ranging from coral to burgundy. since the early 2000s, court members have selected individual dress styles in matching red tones. the cranberry-themed color palette wasn't always compulsory, however. white and pink were also popular choices through decades when court members dressed in identical patterns.

the earliest court members, in the 1940s, were invited select their own color, according to 1949 cranberry queen joan goodbrod. goodbrod's dress was royal blue. her gown received lots of loving attention in the years following her cranberry court reign– her children and grandchildren used it to play dress-up.

most of the museum's festival gown collection represents the last five decades, with a retro review of fashion trends. the 1970s saw conservative use of fabric in the long, but not-too-full skirts. straight necklines of the 1980s were softened with a flounce. the 1990s patterns saw exuberant use of decorative touches, including puff sleeves, lace, sequins and full skirts. the 2016 cranberry queen darby underdown chose a dress with a sleek greco-roman silhouette, empire waist and asymmetrical neckline.

museum director judy knox recalls the collection had fewer than a half dozen dresses when she started work at the museum in the 1990s. building the court gown collection has been a work in progress the last 20 years and continues with invitations to court members to donate dresses.

proehl said collaboration with community members and organizations with an interest in sharing history is a priority for the society.

the museum recently received a donation of historic p og hs from the bandon western world newspaper. the annual bandon cranberry festival is undoubtedly the most-p og hed local event.

"i just scanned 10 rolls (of film) from the 1981 festival from the "western world" donation," said proehl.

special exhibits and events

the annual cranberry festival exhibit will be on display at the museum through sept. 14.

for this year's 70th anniversary festival, the museum will stage an exhibit in the lobby of the sprague community theater for the coronation ceremony, friday, sept. 9 at 7 p.m. festival grand marshals joan and pete goodbrod will be celebrated in a p o display.

coronation guests will also see three samples from the museum's gown collection: 1972 queen michelle goodbrod's dress is a red, renaissance fair style piece with velvet, gold ric rac trim, and long sleeves puffed below the elbow. queen missy rauschert and her fellow 1984 court members carried lace parasols to complement their white tea-length prom dresses online with pink polka-dots. susie davis was crowned queen in 1986, wearing a ruffled, floor length fuchsia gown.

the museum will stay open until 6 p.m. on urday, sept. 10, to host a reunion of the bandon high school graduating cl of 1961. admission to the museum is free during the extended evening hours, and the public is welcome, especially other bhs alumni.

meanwhile, tia shipman started opening up about her life, while natalie and olivia pierson's careers got a boost when they were invited to be fashion amb adors in thailand!

here's the recap of more of the night's must-see moments!

1. talk: tia met up with autumn ajirotutu and sasha gates for lunch and started opening up about how hard her long-distance relationship is, so she asked the ladies what the key is to becoming a wife. "put a zipper on it," sasha told her. "don't give it up." that's when tia revealed she already doesn't have .

autumn was appalled. "you don't have ?!" she asked repeatedly. "you want to marry the ride without testing the ride?" tia then shared that instead she likes to "peg" in the bedroom. sasha and autumn were confused, so she enlightened them. "pegging is the new thing where women have with men and not the other way around with a st -on," tia explained. "you're kind of out there, huh?" sasha responded.

2. soap star: barbie blank got a callback to audition for a role as a waitress on days of our lives, but she was extremely nervous. she couldn't even shake her jitters when she met with casting director marnie saitta to run lines and ended up dropping a few f-bombs after her mistakes. but when it was finally time to impress the co-executive producer, she was able to pull it together and land the part!

3. pleasure chest: tia hosted a party at the pleasure chest in west hollywood and welcomed all of the s to join her for a ual education seminar. the instructors offered naughty advice on spicing up their relationships in the bedroom, and afterward, upon tia's request, it was time for a hands-on lesson in pegging.

sasha and autumn opted out of participating, but olivia, natalie and nicole kept an open mind and were game to at least st up. "i'm excited that the s are actually having a good time, and they're letting loose," tia said. "at least, i have some true rider, real freaks in the house!"

4. full of surprises: natalie was extremely nervous to throw boyfriend shaun phillips a surprise birthday party since no one's ever been able to successfully surprise him. but she managed to pull it off seamlessly with all of his close friends and family in attendance!

but that wasn't even the biggest shock of the night. larry dropped a bombshell of his own when he asked to speak with olivia and natalie privately at the party—and revealed he wanted to propose to nicole! he asked for the s' advice on how to do it, and olivia suggested they ask nicole to come to thailand, so he could pop the question there. "i really want it for us," larry expressed. "we just got to figure out the best way to surprise her, but i do know i want y'all involved."

5. caffeine fix: still in the dark about larry's proposal plans, nicole carried on with business as usual at work—which involved stripping down and covering her naked body with a coffee scrub for a ybodyblendz p o shoot to promote her collaboration with the brand!

6. say what: sasha invited the s over to her house for drinks and one last hurrah before the football season started. but before nicole arrived, natalie and olivia had major news to share. first, they revealed that larry finally decided to propose. then, they invited everyone to join them on their thailand adventure!

later, after a few drinks, barbie suggested everyone participate in a game of "f--k, marry, kill" with only their men. it was a laugh riot as everyone was forced to choose between their friends' significant others. but the most hilarious moment e during barbie's turn when tia asked her to choose between antonio gates, seyi ajirotutu and her own husband, sheldon souray. barbie was so certain she would "f--k" larry—but he wasn't even one of the options. oops! even though nicole took it well, she still had a warning for her good friend. "barbs, larry was not in that equation, ok?" she said, jokingly. "watch your back, . watch your back."
